Portal Rest Area Maintenance Worker

The City of Westfir is accepting applications for the position of Portal Rest Area Maintenance Worker. The position requires knowledge and use of lawn care equipment, irrigation systems, janitorial work, and the ability to work around and with the public. General duties include maintaining restrooms; landscaping and tree care; security system monitoring; and pressure washing.

Job Description


This is a year-round job with fluctuating hours depending on the season. Average weekly hours: 10–15, not to exceed 850 hours per year. There will be more landscape work during the months of March–September and less in other seasons. The Portal shall be maintained in good condition throughout the year.


$15–$16 per hour


  • Must work around and with the public while maintaining a positive attitude and a neat appearance.
  • Clean restrooms:
    • empty trash
    • sweep
    • mop
    • clean sinks, toilets and floors
    • stock paper supplies and soap
  • Request replacement supplies and/or equipment in a timely manner.
  • Keep all paved areas clear of vegetation and miscellaneous debris.
  • Keep picnic tables and shelters clean and functional.
  • Check and dump garbage; clean cans; and replace trash bags when needed.
  • Maintain lighting and bulletin boards.
  • Monitor security system and report problems to supervisor or City Recorder.
  • Abate vandalism and report incidents to Oakridge Police Department.
  • Place signage, turn on electricity/water, prepare gate locks, etc., for Portal rental dates and events.
  • Provide recommendations to City Recorder and/or Councilors for rental/event agreement modifications.
  • Stock the dog sack station and request replacement bags in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and monitor the play structure: repair any damage needed or request assistance from other City employees.
  • Maintain the irrigation system and set the timer according to the watering needs of the season.
  • Water and mow all grass; edge and fertilize as needed.
  • Weed around plants, trees, and other vegetation. Maintain bark dust areas and water plants.
  • Maintain all mowing, blowing, and weed-eating equipment and keep in good working order.
  • Request equipment upgrades prior to future-year budget preparation.
  • Provide a monthly report to the Council and attend one City Council meeting per quarter.
  • Keep a weekly task checklist and submit with timesheet.
  • Maintain boat launch at the confluence: clean up garbage, maintain signage, monitor gate and report illegal camping in coordination with partners.
  • Work with other City employees, third-party vendors and/or volunteers when upgrades to the Portal are needed.
  • Abate blackberry vegetation annually or as necessary.

This job description does not imply that these are the only duties and responsibilities expected of the employee. Employees are expected to follow instructions and perform any duties required by supervisor.
